While we are disheartened by the confirmation of Ms. DeVos for Secretary of Education, we want to take a minute to thank public school supporters for making phone calls and sending emails to inform our elected officials of the disastrous choice of DeVos. Although we were not successful in stopping the DeVos confirmation, we must be proud of of the work public education supporters across the country did to inform the public on Ms. DeVos. Our numbers continue to grow and we will succeed. We must be vigilant. We must continue our work to protect and advocate for public education. Local school boards and state legislatures currently have more power than Ms. DeVos and we must work to elect people to office who believe in public education, we must hold our elected officials accountable, we must pay attention to policy enacted by our local school boards and we must pay attention to legislation.
Currently two voucher-like bills have been introduced in the Colorado legislature, SB 17-039, Tax Credits and HB 17-1089, Parental Choice in Low-performing School Districts. I will be testifying in opposition to HB 17-1089 on Monday in the House Education Committee at 1:30. Please show your support for public education by joining me at the Capitol and by contacting members of the House Education Committee to ask them to vote no on HB 1089, legislation that reduces funding to our public schools.
We need your help fighting for public education. Please donate to Taxpayers For Public Education.
Thank you for your continued support.
